Josh. As a Long Island native…now living in Albuquerque (yeah…it’s a long journey-got a sec?) I just want to say thanks for the “friendly”Friendlies reminder. Peeps out west have NO idea how Friendlies raised an entire generation with their chocolate shakes covered in snowy whipped cream in real old-fashioned soda fountain glasses! Brings back memories! So thanks for that…and for bringing me over from lyn’s stack! Cheers!

Crying in joy at the representation of my people, the peppermint ice cream aficionados. Thank you for seeing me. Happy Hanukkah!

I DO NOT want to thank you for the friendlys reminder since it is not available where I live and I am bereft. Fun fact - the mocha java chip ice cream became my favorite when I lived in BERMUDA. Yes, that island got regular friendlys ice cream in the grocery store but my Midwest groceries simply cannot.

Happy Hanukkah! Also another reason to avoid Starbucks is to comply with some boycott lists (not the official BDS one I know!) yay for workers rights and yay for a free Palestine

I recommend the 2019 compilation album "Hanukkah+" if you haven't already heard it. Don't know if the songs are recent originals or covers, but artists include Yo La Tengo and Haim, and is bookended by Jack Black a capellas.

I’m from MA and only realized recently that peppermint was seasonal at Friendly’s! (In stores and the few that are left, I guess.) My hometown ice cream stand has it all year, as does the place down the street from where I live now.

Today is Festivus, a holiday inspired by a sitcom that doesn't hold up very well. But while we're speaking of seasonal ice cream flavors, I want to give a shout-out to Ben & Jerry's Festivus, which was a gingerbread-flavored ice cream that hasn't been made in... oh, maybe 15-20 years? But I still remember it fondly!

Josh, Daveed Digs’ “Puppy for Chanukah” is a certified bop.

Also I play the heck out of Tom Lehrer’s “I’m Spending Hannukah in Santa Monica” year round. More about the entire Jewish holiday catalog then just Hannukah.

Writing about the joys of peppermint candy ice cream - swoon! Some of my best memories in the world involve eating this flavor. Thank you for the delight this brought me. RE seasonality of this flavor - it's usually found here (Washington state) made with crushed candy cane-like bits rather than looking like the photo you used, so maybe that's why?

Happy Hanukkah to you and your families. I do hope that someone warned the Chinese restaurants that Christmas Day is the first day of Hanukkah. Glad to see that, at least in your family, some traditions don’t go away.
