HBD!!!

I'd also love more thoughts on Dream Scenario! Did you catch that the writer/director also edited it? I was blown away by this and thought it made perfect sense then that he was able to carry the vision through from start to finish. Full transparency, it was one of my favorite films of the year (fresh idea, super touching ending, themes fully carried out/explored, the characters felt like real/messy/lovable people, very grounded in reality despite the premise being more fantastical) but I'd love to hear how the cynicism came off to you and what you thought overall. One of my friends didn't love that Nic Cage's character wasn't likable, which is fair, although I was more in the camp that it was such an accurate depiction of the ups and downs of being a human, how fame warps, how jealousy gets under your skin, what happens when you don't take accountability for your actions, how big desire can be and how it can ruin so much if left to run rampant. Not to mention, their house was so gorgeous, literally my dream home.

I thought it was so imaginative, and Cage's performance was really irritating (in a good and interesting way)! But the weird focus on cancel culture, and the kind of bleak picture of fame as a curse that can befall anyone at any moment (and can't be reversed) was kind of a drag to me! I really did think that the film was visually and conceptually super imaginative, and it unfolded in interesting ways, but got really bleak towards the end. (Until the last scene which was sad in a sweet way.)

Oh that's such an interesting point! You know, it's strange but I think the cancel culture-ness of it all really went in one ear and out the other for me. I found myself more focusing on how fascinating it was that he got exactly what he wanted (fame/notoriety without actually having to work for it) and it turned out that he'd worshipped a false god the entire time. He learned the hard way that his relationships/family/community/work were a lifeblood, and he didn't fully appreciate them until they were gone--definitely bleak, as you said. Anyway, it's endlessly interesting to me how art can inspire such different thoughts and reactions in people. Thanks for sharing your perspective!

re. the C pap mask.

There are literally hundreds of masks available for sleep apnea. all different shapes and sizes. Ask your supplier for something else. Keep trying. Better, like natural and normal night breathing, will improve your entire life, particularly if you have had apnea for a long time. Don't give up!

Also, Ya Snooze, I also use a CPAP and have for a while. You get used to it! I use the nasal pillow kind, which sometimes gives me a sore nose and sometimes leaves me with amusing mask indentations on my face when I wake up. Things that help -- I adjust my headstrap thingie so it's looser than it feels like it should be -- that way it doesn't crush my nose so much. I use the humidifier, always! And I love it for burrowing completely under the covers on cold nights -- I can be fully burritoed and still breathe!
