They Might Be Giants is the BEST live band, hands down!! They were my very first concert, waaaay back in the '90s when I was a college student. My spouse and I have seen them a bunch of times -- their New Year's Eve show last year was, hands-down, the best show I have ever been to. SO much fun.
Oh, also, I always hear Snail Shell in a more cynical way -- I hear it as someone responding to being "put in their place" in a more negative way. I like your interpretation better!
Maybe I’m doing too much Duolingo but I read the phrase “block of stuffI’vegottado” with the accent on the second-last syllable, so it was kind of Italian cheese. Thanks for the extra laugh, Josh!
a beautiful and meaningful point here: "I really resist depressing art that is “naturalistic” or “realistic,” but I’m much more willing to engage with weirdo surrealist drags. (Maybe that means I’m a baby who can’t handle the real world. But also maybe it means that I know war is bad and I get bored when that’s what a movie is all about.) This also points back to my eye rolls at so many awards-y movie performances. Oh, he acted sad because in the movie his son died? WE ALL KNOW THAT DEATH MAKES YOU FEEL SAD. I’m way more interested in a coherent portrayal of a guy who learns that he is appearing in the dreams of everyone in the world."
Bob Sapp! He dated my friend’s older sister, and I spent a good chunk of my early teens playing Tekken and having squirt gun fights with him. He was pretty much just like that all the time. He’d also bring two extra rotisserie chickens to every meal just for himself.
I definitely wasn’t expecting him to pop up in your newsletter. His superhero alter ego (Lint Man) and his brief beef with Bill Nye the Science Guy will always be bouncing around my brain somewhere.
I’m sharing with my goofy friend group though the last chat was about three different people that all have doddles. So funny. Also, Drake didn’t just disappoint Jews but everyone. He’s proving again and again he’s not like us. 😂

Ooo that's so interesting!!! It could be really sarcastic for sure! I'm just a sucker, maybe? Hahaha.
Noooo, not a sucker!! Just optimistic!

No, no! That's a very good alternate interpretation!
Man, if that line in Birdhouse doesn’t wreck you are you even human? It is perfect.
Right???
Dang, what a slew of talent you've aligned for that SF show. See ya there!
I can't wait!
Also I needed the laughs this newsletter gave, and needed them BAD. So thank you!! Birdhouse in my soul is indeed a genius lyric.
Thank YOU!!!
