Great piece as always! Some of my favorite meaningful and funny moments:
"Look, you absolute losers and cowards: I know you’re feeling bad because your preferred candidate Andrew Cuomo failed to triumph in the Democratic primary in the mayoral election. Who can say why that happened? Was it because he’s an accused sex pest who is accused of underreporting thousands of COVID deaths in nursing homes and who resigned from the state’s governorship only four years ago? Was its because people don’t actually like him that much and his poll numbers started dropping as soon as he actually began campaigning and the public was reminded of his bad personality and ideas? Was it because a charismatic and energetic candidate decided not to appeal primarily to Democratic voters who secretly just want to vote for a Republican with a (D) next to his name? Was it all of the above? Who can say?
What I can say is that you are going to be fine."
"I have a shred more understanding for people who are like: “How does this guy feel about Jews?” Not because of anything Candidate Mamdani has said, but because bigots (both avowed and unknowing…whoopsie, Senator Gillibrand) have launched wildly racist and Islamophobic smears at him over and over to the point where if you didn’t know better you might be like…hey…is there a problem here?"
"We are on track to have a mayor who speaks up for immigrants and refugees and trans people, for Muslims and for Jews. Zohran is also the only mayoral candidate in New York City history to follow me on Instagram, but that’s much less relevant."
Saw Laura opening for iirc cheap girls at Middle East up and got to see a disinterested and talkative room be quieted by the power of her voice during Nervous Rex. Top 5 live experience for me
My son is both a job-hunter and a New York City-phile. His dream is to move back to NYC from his current gig (a post-doc in Montreal, where he went to grad school). When the election results came out last week, I sent him a link to the NYTimes story, and he texted back, "Finally, some good news!" You summarized it beautifully. Some people worry about the wrong things. Mamdani's victory shows that some people are paying attention and worrying about the right things.
Looking forward to basking in the warmth of your convo with Maris (congrats on the book!) at the Harvard Book Store on Wednesday. (As an aside, and as Tom Lehrer would say, "Fight fiercely, Harvard!" Because not standing up to the administration worked out SO WELL for Columbia, right?)
First, your standup special is OUTSTANDING!!! I watched it with immense delight on Friday night (on my TV via my chromecast so I could view it big!)! I will be re-watching it, too, because that's what I do with stuff I love! I re-read my favorite books, re-wear my favorite outfits, and eat my favorite foods as often as I get the chance. I'm almost 67, and I believe in re-having joy if you can!
Thank you for being SOOO funny, and also for having a caring heart! Those two things mean everything <3 That was a really cool sweater you wore, too!
You did a great interview on CBS Mornings! Funny, warm, and made the show better!!
I'm also very excited about Maris Kreizman's book!!! I pre-ordered it, and can't WAIT to read this!!!!! :D
for a brief moment, I really thought the name of the woman who ran the museum was going to be Nancy Umbrellas.
Maybe someday!

Will definitely visit if I’m in Maine. If you’re ever in the Madison WI area, check out the Mustard Museum in Middleton. You won’t be disappointed!
Ooo this is great intel. Hopefully I'll be up in Madison before too long!
